Good Reasons to Consider Outdoor Lighting

Published on: March 3, 2014

When designing their homes, many people ignore or overlook outdoor lighting.

Perhaps, this is because we spend more time indoors than outdoors. This might explain why some people tend to infuse great creativity into their home’s interior design, but inject little creativity into their home’s exterior design.

Nevertheless, it can be a major mistake to ignore the benefit and value of proper outdoor lighting. Here are two good reasons why you should consider outdoor lighting for your home.

Promote Safety for Everyone

No one likes tripping along or on steps because they’re trying to navigate your property’s dark exterior. However, without proper lighting, you doom yourself, family, and guests to blindly and hazardously navigate your property’s walkways, landscape, and entryways.

Dark outdoor spaces are no safer than dark hallways, basements, or other areas inside of your home. Without adequate lighting, people are more likely to trip or slip while on your property – whether inside or outside of your home.

Outdoor lighting improves your home’s exterior visibility and safety. It provides protection for people as they approach and leave your home.

Increase Your Home and Family’s Security

Bright outdoor lighting is a well-known intruder/burglar deterrent.

Burglars tend to avoid approaching or breaking into homes with exterior illumination that makes it easy for them to be seen by a passer-by or neighbor.

In addition, motion-sensor outdoor lighting is an excellent way to startle any trespassers or unwanted visitors. The sudden and unexpected bright light from motion-sensor lights is enough to leave any unwanted visitor feeling unprepared, nervous, and exposed. You can help protect your home by installing outdoor lights, such as:

  • Bunker lights
  • Flood lights
  • Garden lights
  • Sensor lights
