Fences Versus Privacy Trees: Which is Best for Your Yard?

Published on: May 28, 2018

Do you want to add more privacy to your yard? Both fences and privacy trees can offer screening from nosy neighbors and give you a private space in your outdoor area. While there is no right or wrong answer, there are pros and cons to both options. Here are a few things to consider when choosing the best option for privacy in your yard.

Blocking the View

A six-foot wood fence creates a solid barrier that is perfect for blocking the view of neighbors on ground level, but it may not address 2-story homes. If you want to block those in neighboring homes from looking into your yard from their upstairs windows, tall privacy trees may offer a higher barrier.

Security and Safety

Fences offer more in security and safety for your family and pets, keeping them in and others out. Privacy trees only keep out prying eyes, not people or animals.

Maintenance

When it comes to maintenance, privacy trees are much easier than fences that will need repairs, cleaning, staining and other maintenance.

Cost

The cost of a fence versus privacy will depend on the type of fencing you buy and the type and number of trees. In most cases, the privacy trees will be less expensive and certainly are less over the years when you consider the costs of maintaining a fence.

If you want privacy in your backyard, talk to your local landscaper about the options available. There are many types of privacy trees and fencing that can give you the private area you want in your yard, you just need to find the right fit for your needs.
