Tips if Your Lawn Mower is Not Running Right

Published on: September 11, 2018

Is your mower starting to give you trouble? If you are not mechanically inclined or already despise the chore of mowing your lawn, this can be frustrating. Mowers need maintenance like any equipment with an engine – if you don’t want to end up spending hundreds of dollars on a new mower, here are a few tips.

  • Change the oil and air filter. Just like your vehicle, your lawn mower needs the oil and air filter changed to keep it running right. If the oil is looking black or has debris in it, it needs to be drained and refilled. Air filters also need to be replaced as they begin to get dirty or clogged.
  • Clean the mower. The undercarriage of the mower should be cleaned regularly. You need to scrape away debris from the blades and spray the area clean, preferably after each use.
  • Change spark plugs. A new spark plug should be put in every year – an old plug can cause your mower not to run smoothly or it may not start at all.
  • Sharpen the blade. The blade on your mower can become dull, not cutting like it should. Sharpening the blade or bringing it in to a dealer for sharpening can improve performance.

Tired of Mower Maintenance?

If all this seems like a lot of work just to mow your lawn, why do it? Mowers can be expensive to replace and maintain’ it is especially annoying when you do not enjoy mowing your lawn in the first place. Avoid the cost and hassle of mower maintenance and hire a lawn maintenance company instead. They bring their own equipment and do a professional job mowing your lawn. You can sit back and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful lawn without the hassle of maintaining a mower.
