Considering Adding A Fire Pit To Your Yard?

Published on: June 4, 2014

Nothing beats enjoying a summer evening in your backyard, especially when you have a beautiful fire to light up the night. Fire pits have become a popular addition to many backyards and patios, giving off natural light and warmth on those beautiful summer and even winter nights. While there are cheap portable fire pits you can buy at almost any home improvement store, why not add a gorgeous rock or brick fire pit that can used for years to come?

Choosing Your Fire Pit Material

Both natural stone and bricks can be used to build a beautiful fire pit, as well as formed concrete. While one is not necessarily better than the other, each has its own benefits.

  • Brick. Brick fire pits provide a classic look, especially if you decide to build a larger fireplace versus just a small pit. This can be the focal point in your yard or patio, with options of gray, tan or classic red bricks.
  • Stone. If you have a rich, foliage-filled yard, a natural stone fire pit may be a better option to blend into your landscaping. This natural look is very appealing, giving you the feeling of camping right at home.
  • Concrete. For a more modern look, formed concrete can make an excellent choice for a fire pit. For patios or pool sides which are already done in concrete, it makes sense to stay with the same material.

Whatever type of fire pit you choose, your local landscape supply store should be able to help you get the best materials for the job. This can be a great do-it-yourself project; however, many people prefer to have a professional landscaping company that offers hardscaping put in their fire pits for them. Don’t spend another summer in the dark; get started on your new fire pit today!
